The Prunus Salicina - Methley plum is a cultivar of Japanese plum, Methley is a small, upright, spreading tree. ‘Methley’ produces mid-size reddish purple fruit, dark red flesh with a good mild flavor.

The Methley plum is self-fertile but should be planted in multiples to ensure a better crop. Has a chill hours (CU) requirement of 150–250. (Chill hours are the average hours of air temperature between 32° and 45° F in a typical winter season.)

Characteristics: Fragrant pink and white blooms. Produces medium to large, round to conical clingstone fruit with purple-red skin. The juicy red flesh has a sweet, mild flavor--ideal for fresh eating and jelly. Yields ripe fruit typically from late May to early June, depending on location. Has a chill hours (CU) requirement of 150–250. (Chill hours are the average hours of air temperature between 32° and 45° F in a typical winter season.)

Growth Rate: Medium 13"-24" per year

Soil, Water, Fertilize: The Methley plum grows in a wide variety of soil types and has some tolerance for heavy and waterlogged soils. It prefers a well-drained, loamy, mildly acidic to mildly alkaline soil.

Allow 8'-12' of space for growth when planting

An annual application of slow release fertilizer will benefit the tree for structural growth and increase fruit yield.

Water thoroughly the first year of planting to establish a strong root system and during the fruiting period to avoid blossom drop.

Poor little tree looks like it had a rough trip (some wilted and drying out leaves) but I’m hoping once in the ground it starts to do better! It was well packaged.
