Cotoneaster Apiculatus - Cranberry Cotoneaster is a deciduous, 2'ft tall,  ground-covering shrub, adding a splash of color and spectacular fall fruit display to your garden. Their name refers to their small, red, cranberry-like fruit that adorns their arching branches from winter into early fall and enjoyed by songbirds. Growing to only knee height and spreading three times their height, these arching mounds make great groundcover. Their glossy green leaves turn wonderful fall colors varying from coppery-brown, purple and burgundy red.

Full sun to partial sun.

Attracts birds.

Drought tolerant once established.

Pink / White flowers, non-fragrant

Characteristics: Branches grow in a stiff, arching manner and droop downward creating a fountain-like appearance. New growth appears in a reddish/purple tint and matures into a somewhat porous, olive-brown branch. Produces glossy red fruit that persist into winter. Attracts songbirds.

Growth Rate: Moderate

Soil, Water, Fertilize: Moist, rich but can tolerate all types of soil as long as it is well draining with the pH 6.0 - 8.0. Prune in late winter to promote growth and shape the shrub. Tolerant to salt sprays. Fertilize in early spring.
