Syringa Vulgaris 'Lilac Sunday' - Sunday Lilac is a hybrid of Syringa vulgaris and Syringa persica producing fragrant, eye-catching lavender blooms filling your garden with its heavenly scent attracting butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees in the spring. The leaves and flowers of this Chinese lilac resemble those of Persian lilac, but the erect growth and abundance of flowers most resembles those of common lilac. Lilac Sunday is a spreading, multi-trunked, deciduous shrub with soft, arching branches. Not only are these flower clusters great to look at outside, but bring them in and place into a flower arrangement for home interior decorations.

Light: Prefers full sun

Characteristics: Spreading, multi-trunked, deciduous shrub with soft, arching branches. Blooms not only from branch tips, but also lateral buds along the stems. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Easy to care for and maintain

Hardiness Zone: 3 - 7

Soil: Rich, fertile, well-drained with pH ranging between 6.5-7.0. Cold hardy. Water in periods of drought. Pruning after flowering periods is recommended but not necessary, but timing is important as they bloom on old growth. Fertilize lilacs in late winter.

The Syringa vulgaris (common lilac) naturally occurred on the mountains of Southeastern Europe, spreading throughout Western European gardens and eventually reaching North America in the 18th century. And explorers later sending home samples and seed of Syringa meyeri (Korean lilac) specimens discovered on their expeditions shedding a light on new species of lilacs. Their increase in popularity inspired European and American nurserymen and horticulturist to breed and collect cultivars with the brightest, largest, most colorful and strongly scented blooms.
