Buxus x 'Glencoe' - Chicagoland Boxwood is a chosen boxwood cultivar for its outstanding cold hardiness and resilience to hold its glossy green foliage well in winter. As most boxwoods foliage tend to become a bronze shade due to cold temperatures, this one of the most popular to hold its color. This evergreen grows uniform and close to the ground but responds well to pruning. Blooms small insignificant creamy-green flowers in late spring.

Full sun to partial sun.

Drought tolerant once established.

Size: Mature size can reach 2' - 3' x 3' - 4'

Light: Full to partial sun

Hardiness zone: 4 - 9

Characteristics: Grows in a dense, compact, rounded shape. Can be pruned all year round but avoid pruning in late fall. Provide about an inch of insulation for change in temperatures and moisture control. Low maintenance, except pruning which is optional. Protect from intense sun and harsh winds in winter.

Growth Rate: Slow

Soil, Water, Fertilize: Moist, loamy, cool, rich, well-draining pH 6.5 -7.0. Tolerant to cold and drought once established. Deer, rabbit and disease resistant. Though unnecessary, fertilize in the second growth year in early spring with a slow-release fertilizer.
