Small, yet vigorous grower makes the perfect addition to any shady landscape. Fire Island Hosta exhibits broadly ovate leaves that are slightly corrugated. Watch as the brilliant yellow foliage darkens to a chartreuse color as the season progresses accented with red petioles. The bell-shaped lavender flowers are displayed on 18”-20” scapes above neatly clumping foliage attracting hummingbirds and bees. Winning the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit in 2012, you can’t go wrong adding this hosta to your collection. These hostas have a very striking appearance!

This Fire Island Hosta comes established in a Quart pot.

Size: Mature size can reach up to 14" high & 30" wide.

Light: Part sun to full shade

Characteristics: Small to medium size Hosta. Grows in a mound shape made up of slightly corrugated, brilliant yellow leaves on red petioles. Has the ability to flower in mid to late summer, fragrant clusters of lavender flower buds that emerge horizontally on short flower stems from the clusters. These herbaceous perennials die back in the winter months and reemerges every year during early spring. Attracts pollinators.

Hardiness zone: 3 - 9

Water & Soil: Prefers moist, water-retentive, fertile soil. Sensitive to heat and direct harsh sun. Water in periods of drought. Does not do well in compact soil. Recommended to prune spent flowers. When in dormancy water periodically, do not allow to dry out.

Can be grown in ground or in containers.

Plant 30" inches apart, center to center.

Flower scapes can be snipped to bring blooms indoors.

Divide plants in late summer or early spring. Division should have at least 3 eyes. Allow several years before dividing.

Potted dormant perennials can be kept in a well-lit cool/cold area (i.e. garage, shed, even in a protected area outdoors) until ready for spring planting. Do not allow them to completely dry out.
