Carya Illinoinensis - Pecan tree is the state tree of Texas!  The United States produces 80% of the worlds pecans making it very valuable nut. Highly nutritious as they are sodium-free and contain more than 19 vitamins and minerals, as well as 18% protein content. They make for wonderful pies, ice creams or just as a snack!

Characteristics: Lifespan of 300 years. Once a pecan starts producing you can expect an average of 75 to 150 pounds of nuts every single year

Soil, Water, Fertilize: Grow in deep, moist, well draining, rich, sandy soil with a pH of 5.5 - 6.5+. Slightly acidic soil. Add zinc sulfate in the spring and summer helps boost production.

Keep mature size in mind when planting to avoid overcrowding or roots invading foundations.
