Hosta 'Wide Brim'

This Wide Brim Hosta ships established in a 1 Quart pot.

Size: Mature size can reach up to 18 - 24" high & 30 - 36"wide

Light: Part sun to full shade

Hardiness zone: 4 - 8

Characteristics: Medium to large size Hosta. Grows in a mounded form with broad, heart-shaped, blue-green leaves decorated with a creamy yellow irregular wide margin. Has the ability to flower in mid to late summer, fragrant clusters of lavender flower buds that emerge horizontally on short flower stems from the clusters. These herbaceous perennials die back in the winter months and reemerges every year during early spring. Attracts pollinators.

Growth rate: Moderate

Soil & Water: Prefers moist, water-retentive, fertile soil with pH of 6.5 - 7.0. Sensitive to heat and direct harsh sun. Water in periods of drought. Does not do well in compact soil. Recommended to prune spent flowers. When in dormancy water periodically, do not allow to dry out.

Plant 5' - 6'ft apart, center to center.

Flower scapes can be snipped to bring blooms indoors.

Divide plants in late summer or early spring. Division should have at least 3 eyes. Allow several years before dividing.

Potted dormant perennials can be kept in a well-lit cool/cold area (i.e. garage, shed, even in a protected area outdoors) until ready for spring planting. Do not allow them to completely dry out.
