The Buxus microphylla var. japonica 'Winter Gem' - Winter Gem Boxwood is a dense, compact, rounded, multi-branch evergreen shrub. Labeled as a "Dwarf" shrub this is one of the most frost hardy boxwoods, withstanding cold temperatures that reach -20°F. New foliage emerges a lime green color that later deepens into a luscious green shade. The foliage can become a bronze shade when exposed to extreme cold temperatures but is one of the first types of boxwoods that grow back green. Blooms small insignificant creamy-green flowers in late spring that attract pollinators.
