The Vaccinium Ashei (V. Corymbosum x V. Ashei) - 'Powdered Blue' Blueberries, also called Powdered Blue Rabbiteye Blueberry are a mid to late season ripening, abundant producer and naturally heat tolerant variety. These shrubs produce medium-sized, sweet, juicy, light blue berries with a soft white dusting in the summer months. Bearing fruit within 2-3 years, this shrub has small white, bell-shaped blossoms that become color-changing berries. These berries start off pink then ripen into medium-sized, light blue, edible berries with a slightly thicker and waxier skin from June - July and produce fruit for over 50 years! Branches are adorned with oval shaped green leaves that turning shades of burgundy to orange in the fall.

This is not a self-pollinating shrub, it will need to be cross pollinated by other rabbiteye varieties like Premier, Tifblue or Brightwell.

Full sun to partial sun.

Hardiness zone: 7 - 9

Characteristics: Vigorous growing, upright, slightly spreading manner and produces medium-sized, sweet, firm, light blue berries. Attracts birds, bees and butterflies. Has a chill hours (CU) requirement of 550 - 650 hours. (Chill hours are the average hours of air temperature between 32° and 45° F in a typical winter season.) Rabbiteye cultivars require less mulching and organic matter than other cultivars.
