 Halcyon is one of the most popular of the blue hosta cultivar. Halcyon feature a mound of flat, spear-shaped, heavily textured blue green leaves. Bell-shaped, pale lilac shaded flowers grow on 26” scapes. Dense foliage crowds out most garden weeds.

Hostas are herbaceous perennial plants. These plants provide a focal point when using in landscapes and gardens. Hostas are known as the best shade loving plants for the garden. Large leaves provide excellent coverage for dying foliage. With their subtle colors, tall flower scapes and broad leaves bring versatility in the landscape.

Size: Mature size can reach up to 24" high & 36" wide

Hardiness zone: 3 - 8

Characteristics: Small to medium size Hosta. Sturdy and compact with flattened, thick, heart-shaped, heavily ribbed leaves in a gorgeous frosted blue-green color. Has the ability to flower in mid to late summer, fragrant clusters of pale lavender flower buds that emerge horizontally on short flower stems from the clusters. These herbaceous perennials die back in the winter months and reemerges every year during early spring. Attracts pollinators.

Growth rate: Moderate

Soil & Water: Prefers moist, water-retentive, fertile soil with pH of 6.5 - 7.0. Sensitive to heat and direct harsh sun. Water in periods of drought. Does not do well in compact soil. Recommended to prune spent flowers. When in dormancy water periodically, do not allow to dry out.

Can be grown in ground or in containers.

Plant 36" inches apart, center to center.

Flower scapes can be snipped to bring blooms indoors.

Divide plants in late summer or early spring. Division should have at least 3 eyes. Allow several years before dividing.

Potted dormant perennials can be kept in a well-lit cool/cold area (i.e. garage, shed, even in a protected area outdoors) until ready for spring planting. Do not allow them to completely dry out.
