Care Instructions

Watering:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Onions need regular watering, especially during dry periods, to develop large bulbs.

Fertilizing:
Fertilize 2-3 weeks after planting with a nitrogen-rich fertilizer. Stop fertilizing once the onions start bulbing, as excess nitrogen can prevent bulb growth.

Weeding:
Keep the area free of weeds to reduce competition for nutrients and moisture. Use shallow cultivation to avoid disturbing onion roots.

Mulching:
Apply a layer of mulch around the plants to conserve moisture, control weeds, and regulate soil temperature.

Harvesting:
Onions are ready for harvest when the tops turn yellow and start to fall over, typically after 3-4 months. Pull the onions, allow them to dry in a shaded area, and cure for a few weeks in a well-ventilated spot.

Additional Tips
Bolting Prevention: Plant at the right time and provide consistent care to reduce the chance of bolting (premature flowering).
Storage: Once cured, store onions in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area.

Important: Open the package immediately upon arrival to ensure the onion sets are in good condition and ready for planting.

Timing:
Plant onion sets in early spring as soon as the soil is workable. For regions with mild winters, fall planting is also an option.

Site Selection:
Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Onions thrive in full sunlight and need a location with consistent exposure.

Soil Preparation:
Amend the soil with compost or a balanced vegetable fertilizer if needed. Onions prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0.

Planting Depth and Spacing:
Plant each onion set about 1 inch deep with the pointed end facing upward.
Space sets 4-6 inches apart in rows that are about 12 inches apart to allow room for bulb growth and airflow.

Open immediately!

The onions were packaged in airtight plastic bags and I did not open them in a timely manner and all the onions bulbs were wet and moldy. OPEN IMMEDIATELY AND TAKE OUT OF THE PLASTIC BAGS. I had to throw them away.

Dear Joe,

Thank you for your review. As emphasized in our shipping instructions, it is crucial to open and inspect live plant orders immediately upon arrival. Waiting 50 days to open your package resulted in the moldy and wet onion bulbs you encountered.

We urge all customers to follow the provided instructions to ensure the health and quality of their plants. Delays in opening the packaging can lead to the issues you described.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,
