The Acer rubrum 'Brandywine'Brandywine Maple was a result of crossing the "October Glory" and the "Autumn Brilliance" in order to get a less messy, more hardy but still as stunning cultivar. This deciduous tree has a multi-seasonal interest as it produces flowers in spring, color changing foliage into summer and of course its brilliant red-purple autumn color. Referred to as a "Male Selection" this maple is a seedless variety, producing only male flowers that do not produce any fruit or seeds.

Full sun to partial sun.

Drought tolerant once established.

Red flowers, non-fragrant

    Size: Mature size can reach 35' - 50' high x 55' - 40' wide

    Light: Full to partial sun

    Hardiness zone: 4 - 8

    Characteristics: Grows with an oval crown. Foliage emerges green with tinges of red, become bright green in summer and later turn a red-purple in the fall. Produces conspicuous, red male blossoms in early spring. Bark is light grey and smooth when young and darkens with age.

    Growth Rate: Moderate to fast

    Soil, Water, Fertilize: Moist, acidic, well draining soil. Keep soil moist but not soggy. Prefers slightly acidic soil. Fertilize once before planting if needed.

    Suggested Uses: Shade, specimen
