Sum and Substance is one of the best varieties with huge mounds of deeply veined, chartreuse leaves that become gold as summer approaches. The leaves are slightly wavy.

Hostas are herbaceous perennial plants. These plants provide a focal point when using in landscapes and gardens. Hostas are known as the best shade loving plants for the garden. Large leaves provide excellent coverage for dying foliage. With their subtle colors, tall flower scapes and broad leaves bring versatility in the landscape.

Full sun to partial sun.

Attracts birds, bees and butterflies.

Drought tolerant once established.

Lavender / white flowers, non-fragrant

Size: Mature size can reach up to 3'ft high & 6'ft wide

Light: Part sun to full shade

Hardiness zone: 4 - 9

Characteristics: Extra large size Hosta. Huge, thick, leathery chartreuse leaves, turn a golden shade at the start of summer. Has the ability to flower in mid to late summer, fragrant clusters of lavender flower buds that emerge horizontally on short flower stems from the clusters. These herbaceous perennials die back in the winter months and reemerges every year during early spring. Attracts pollinators.

Growth rate: Moderate

Soil & Water: Prefers moist, water-retentive, fertile soil with pH of 6.5 - 7.0. Sensitive to heat and direct harsh sun. Water in periods of drought. Does not do well in compact soil. Recommended to prune spent flowers. When in dormancy water periodically, do not allow to dry out.

Can be grown in ground or in containers.

Plant 5' - 6'ft apart, center to center.

Flower scapes can be snipped to bring blooms indoors.

Divide plants in late summer or early spring. Division should have at least 3 eyes. Allow several years before dividing.

Potted dormant perennials can be kept in a well-lit cool/cold area (i.e. garage, shed, even in a protected area outdoors) until ready for spring planting. Do not allow them to completely dry out.

The plants were well- packaged and very healthy and came full leafed. I ordered hostas from another company too and they were puny, cut down beyond recognition. In contrast, Tristar was great.
