Rhus Aromatica - Fragrant Sumac, also called Lemon Sumac or Polecat Bush, is a vigorous, tough, dense growing shrub, member of the Anacardiaceae/Cashew family. Grows in an irregular, upright, spreading manner, with velvety twigs and lower branches that turn upwards. Releases root suckers, and can form colonies and thickets. This shrub is adorned by glossy, bluish-green, coarsely-toothed foliage, which then becomes a brilliant orangey-red fall color, and releases a fragrant scent when brushed or crushed. Blooms small, yellow, catkin-like flowers that turn into hairy red fruit in March, attracting wildlife and pollinators such as butterflies, bees, small mammals, and birds.
