Native to North America

Characteristics: Moderately fast growing, thicket-forming, deciduous shrub that can also be grown into a small tree. Has small oval shape green leaves, clusters of white blooms in spring followed by round, dark purple almost black fruits in drooping clusters from late summer to fall that are edible only when ripe. Attracts birds, butterflies, pollinators and other types of wildlife.

Soil, Water, Fertilize: Moist, loamy, well-draining soil with the pH 5.5 - 6.5. Can tolerate a variety of different growing conditions. Resistant to heat, drought, and compact soil. Prune in late winter to promote growth and shape the shrub. Fertilize in early spring. No serious insect or disease issues.
