‘Night Before Christmas’ is a wider margined sport of the ‘White Christmas’ Hosta. Night Before Christmas is a medium-sized hosta with huge, dark-green leaves with creamy white centers that change to pure white by mid-summer. Pale lavender flowers bloom mid to late summer.

Full sun to partial sun.

Attracts birds, bees and butterflies.

Drought tolerant once established.

Hardiness Zone: 3 - 9

Characteristics: Medium size Hosta. Sport of 'White Christmas' with huge leaves with wider margins. Leaves are thicker and a lush dark green and creamy-white, brush-like strokes in the center and lighten to a pure white by mid-summer. Has the ability to flower in mid to late summer, fragrant clusters of pale lavender flower buds that emerge horizontally on short flower stems from the clusters. These herbaceous perennials die back in the winter months and reemerges every year during early spring. Attracts pollinators.

Growth rate: Moderate

Soil & Water: Prefers moist, water-retentive, fertile soil with pH of 6.5 - 7.0. Sensitive to heat and direct harsh sun. Water in periods of drought. Does not do well in compact soil. Recommended to prune spent flowers. When in dormancy water periodically, do not allow to dry out.

Plant 5' - 6'ft apart, center to center.

Flower scapes can be snipped to bring blooms indoors.

Divide plants in late summer or early spring. Division should have at least 3 eyes. Allow several years before dividing.

Potted dormant perennials can be kept in a well-lit cool/cold area (i.e. garage, shed, even in a protected area outdoors) until ready for spring planting. Do not allow them to completely dry out.
