This Earth Angel Hosta is on the receiving end of many awards including American Hosta Growers’ Association Hosta of the Year 2009, AHS Benedict Garden Performance Award Honorable Mention 2009, AHS Benedict Garden Performance Award of Merit 2010, and Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit 2012.

Earth Angel is an impressive specimen hosta with large heart-shaped, blue-green leave with wide creamy margins that are creamy yellow in the spring. The 1st blue-variegated hosta to have a border and one of the largest blue-variegated hostas, leaves can grow to be 16”, making ‘Earth Angel’ a showstopper in any shade garden.

In midsummer, pale lavender flowers rise from these impressive clumps on 30-40” scapes. Mature plant size produces clumps of 30 inches in height and spread of 40 inches. ‘Earth Angel’ Hosta thrives in conditions of full shade to filtered sun.

This Earth Angel Hosta comes established in a Quart pot.

Size: Mature size can reach up 30" high & 40" wide

Light: Partial sun to partial shade.

Hardiness zone: 3 - 9

Characteristics: Large to extra large size Hosta. Mounded form with large, heart-shaped, blue-green leaves with wide, creamy-yellow margins that become and ivory in summer. Has the ability to flower in mid to late summer, fragrant clusters of lavender flower buds that emerge horizontally on short flower stems from the clusters. These herbaceous perennials die back in the winter months and reemerges every year during early spring. Attracts hummingbirds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, as well as birds.

Growth Rate: Moderate

Soil & Water: Prefers moist, water-retentive, fertile soil with pH of 6.5 - 7.0. Sensitive to heat and direct harsh sun. Water in periods of drought. Does not do well in compact soil. Recommended to prune spent flowers. When in dormancy water periodically, do not allow to dry out.

Can be grown in ground or in containers.

Plant 5'ft apart, center to center.

Flower scapes can be snipped to bring blooms indoors.

Divide plants in late summer or early spring. Division should have at least 3 eyes. Allow several years before dividing.

Potted dormant perennials can be kept in a well-lit cool/cold area (i.e. garage, shed, even in a protected area outdoors) until ready for spring planting. Do not allow them to completely dry out.
