The Acer rubrum 'Brandywine' - Brandywine Maple was a result of crossing the "October Glory" and the "Autumn Brilliance" in order to get a less messy, more hardy but still as stunning cultivar. This deciduous tree has a multi-seasonal interest as it produces flowers in spring, color changing foliage into summer and of course its brilliant red-purple autumn color. Referred to as a "Male Selection" this maple is a seedless variety, producing only male flowers that do not produce any fruit or seeds.

    Maple Tree 'Brandywine Red'

Bred by the US National Arboretum in 1982 by crossing the Acer rubrum ‚ÄėOctober Glory‚Äô and A. rubrum ‚ÄėAutumn Flame‚Äô. Was a part of a research project in examining the inheritance of fall color, leafhopper resistance and improving existing red maple cultivars. When planted along with its predecessors, fall color for this cultivars peaks in between allowing for a longer enjoyment of their striking appearance.
