The Corylus Americana - Hazelnut trees are a nut producing tree often used in coffee creamers and desserts. Typically grows as a multi-stemmed shrub with a rounded top and open, usually wide-spreading base. This tree will start bearing fruit in 2-3 years, producing annual abundant crops of sweet tasting nuts for years to come. The nuts are covered in a husk that is easy to pop off by hand or will fall to the ground once mature in autumn. This tree is monoecious, with seperate male and female flowers present, although blossoms are not big and flashy. The wildlife will love this tree!
Though this tree does have both male and female reproductive organs, it is a self-incompatible tree and will require another nearby to wind pollinated.
