Growth & Care

This fast-growing shade tree can reach 70–100 feet tall and 60–80 feet wide at maturity. It prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil, though it tolerates occasional flooding and urban conditions. Minimal pruning is needed once established.

Seasonal Interest

Known for its distinctive mottled bark that peels to reveal creamy white and tan tones, the American Sycamore also offers dense summer shade and a wide-spreading canopy. In winter, the bare white limbs add unique structural interest to the landscape.

Environmental Benefits

American Sycamore is a native species that supports local ecosystems and wildlife. Its large canopy offers excellent shade, reduces urban heat, and improves air quality, while its deep roots help stabilize soil near creeks and low areas.
