The Malus Domestica ‘McIntosh’ - McIntosh apple tree produces small to medium size, rounded fruit on short stems close to the branches. Known mainly for its snap, the McIntosh has aromatic, tender white flesh with thick red and green colored skin and a prefect balance between sweet and tart flavor. With heavy crop yields, low chill requirements, and highly adaptable to a wide range of climates and soils this cold hardy, early fruiting apple tree must surely make it to the top of your list. Blossoms are white and delicate appearing in early spring with the fruit ripening in September to October.

This variety does need to be pollinated by another kind in order to produce fruit, like the Winesap, Gala, Jonathan, Fuji, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious or Granny Smith. Used mostly for fresh eating, baking, applesauce or even cider!

Apple Tree 'McIntosh'

Accidentally discovered in Ontario, Canada, in the 19th century by John McIntosh on his plot of land while clearing the property. It was unusual to find apple trees that could survive such cold climates and are believed to have been developed from some discarded European apple varieties. Once transplanted near to his home, the tree produced fruit and bore a sweet-tart, crisp, bi-color apple never before seen and loved by his family. It wasn't until his sons discovered that in order to produce like fruit, the McIntosh had to be grafted, not grown from seed. This versatile apple has since gained popularity, became the national apple of Canada, and is still a preferred snacking treat.
