The Forsythia x Intermedia 'Lynwood Variety' - 'Lynwood Variety' Forsythia, also referred to as 'Golden Bells' or 'Lynwood Gold', is a fast growing deciduous flowering shrub that grows in an upright, arching form. Known for its long, arching branches and bright, large yellow flowers that bloom in early spring. Grows dark green, coarsely toothed, ovate leaves either simultaneously or after the flowers have bloomed. During autumn, their foliage becomes a bright yellow with orange and red hues before dropping their leaves for the winter. Produces small, non-ornamental brown fruits that birds love once blooming season is over.

Hardiness Zone

Forsythia grows well in USDA zones 5–8 and performs best in regions with cold winters and moderate to warm summers. Plants planted outside of these zones may struggle to thrive.

Growth & Care

This fast-growing deciduous shrub reaches 8–10 feet tall and wide, forming an upright, arching shape. It prefers full sun for best flowering and tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils. Prune just after blooming to maintain shape and encourage next year’s flowers.

Blooms

Brilliant golden-yellow flowers cover the bare stems in early spring, often blooming before the leaves emerge. The bold color makes it one of the earliest and most dramatic signs of the season.

Seasonal Impact

'Lynwood Variety' adds a striking burst of color at the start of spring and can be used in borders, naturalized areas, or as a seasonal hedge. Its dense branching also offers cover for wildlife during the growing season.
