The Chaenomeles speciosa 'Dragon's blood' - 'Red Dragons Blood' Double Flowering Quince is a deciduous, compact, multi-stemmed, shrub with double blooms. These 'double blooms' are showy, textured blooms with multiple layers of petals that appear on old growth in early spring and persists through most the year as this plant is primarily sterile. The branches are decorated with oval to oblong shaped leaves, fiery red blooms in the Spring and no thorns! This is one of the first burst of colors as buds begin to bloom in early spring. Soon after, new foliage emerges a red tinted shade that later emerge to a glossy, dark green in Summer. This cultivar is difficult to find, and was used as one of the parent plant in making the "Double Take" series of flowering quinces.
