The Malus Domestica 'Gala' - Gala Apple was developed in New Zealand. With a sweet, firm and juicy texture, Galas are particularly good as a sauce. The Gala is an easy apple tree to grow, making it a popular choice amongst apple growers.

Is self-fertile but can be cross-pollinated with other variety to produce larger crops. Can pollinate with Fuji, Red Delicious and Jonathan.

Characteristics: Harvest fruits October-November. Has a chill hours (CU) requirement of 500. (Chill hours are the average hours of air temperature between 32° and 45° F in a typical winter season.) Produces fruit in 2-5 years.

Growth Rate: Moderate

Soil, Water, Fertilize: Plant in well-draining, loamy soil with a pH of 6.0-7.0. Prune in late winter to promote growth and shape the tree. Fertilize in early spring.
