The Malus Domestica 'Gala'Gala Apple was developed in New Zealand. With a sweet, firm and juicy texture, Galas are particularly good as a sauce. The Gala is an easy apple tree to grow, making it a popular choice amongst apple growers.

Is self-fertile but can be cross-pollinated with other variety to produce larger crops. Can pollinate with Fuji, Red Delicious and Jonathan

Size: This semi dwarf Gala Apple will reach about 15' ft tall and 10'-15' wide.

Characteristics: Harvest fruits October-November. Has a chill hours (CU) requirement of 500. (Chill hours are the average hours of air temperature between 32° and 45° F in a typical winter season.) Produces fruit in 2-5 years.

Growth Rate: Moderate

Soil, Water, Fertilize: Plant in well-draining, loamy soil with a pH of 6.0-7.0. Prune in late winter to promote growth and shape the tree. Fertilize in early spring.

Apple Tree 'Gala'

Chosen for its mild sweetness and crispness, the Gala apple is a cultivar developed in New Zealand in the 20th century. Created from the most famous of apple lineage, this variety was produced from crossing the Golden Delicious and Kidd's Orange Red Apple. The Gala has since been used to create other apple cultivars such as the Jazz, Envy, Sweetie, Delfloga and Pacific Rose. Becoming one the the most commercially grown and multi-purpose cultivated apple variety worldwide.
