Ficus Carica 'Brown Turkey' Brown Turkey Fig is one of the most popular figs grown in the United States due to its multiple harvest seasons and delicious fruit. This attractive deciduous specimen can grow as either a small tree, with pruning, or large shrub without. Blooms inconspicuous, brown to purple hued flowers in the spring before maturing into small, mildly sweet fruit. Its purplish-brown fruit comes into two harvests each year, one in late spring and again in late summer. They are highly adaptable and root very hardy, becoming prolific in zones 5 and 6 with proper shelter and only requiring light annual pruning. Commonly eaten fresh, used for baking, sauces and jellies.

This tree is self-pollinating and does not require another variety to produce fruit. Great quality and easy maintenance, this variety is perfect for beginner or experienced gardeners a-like.

Full sun to partial sun. 

Attracts birds, bees and butterflies.

Insignificant Brown / Purple flowers, non-fragrant.

Characteristics: Small fruit ripens in July with purple bronze skin and pink pulp, tastes mild and sweet. Large, thick, green leaves are 5-10 inches long and 4-7 inches across and deeply, palmately lobed with three or five lobes. The upper surface is green and rough with hairs and the underside is paler and smooth. Yellow to brown fall color. Grows to a mature size of 10 to 30 feet tall and wide quickly with a broad crown of large deeply lobed rough leaves.

Soil, Water: Rich, well-drained moist soils with pH ranging from 6.0 - 8.0. Is not tolerate acidic soils.
