The Malus Domestica ‘Cripps Pink’ - Pink Lady apple tree is a result of crossing a Golden Delicious with the Lady Williams. This striking pink apple with a distinct crisp tartness and aromatic, sweet subtle flavor came into production in Australia under the trademarked name "Cripps Pink", after the developer, John Cripps. With heavy crop yields and low chill requirements this early fruiting apple tree is hard to resist. Blossoms are creamy white/pale pink and delicate appearing in early spring with the fruit ripening in October to November.

This variety does need to be pollinated by another kind in order to produce fruit, like the Winesap, Gala, Jonathan, Fuji, Red Delicious, Honey Crisp, McIntosh, Golden Delicious or Granny Smith. Used mostly for fresh eating, baking, canning, as well as jellies and preserves. Can be refrigerated for up to 6 weeks.

Apple Tree 'Pink Lady'

The Pink Lady apples we know today are were hand picked from the Cripps Pink variety created in the 1970's by John Cripps. In hopes of creating a more consistent cultivar, the best of the Cripps Pink were selected in hopes of perfecting their sugar to acid ratio, blushed pink appearance, crisp flesh, and sweet-tart flavor. This streamlining allowed for a more consistent apple quality and selling for premium prices in the United States in the 1990's.
